Ingredients
- 200g Unagi (= Eel fillet)
- 3 tablespoons of mirin (Japanese sweet sauce)
- 1 tablespoon of sake (Japanese cooking wine)
- 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon of ginger (shredded)
- 200g of sushi rice
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
Directions
-
Start by prepping the eel fillet. Carefully cut the Unagi (eel) into thin slices. Ehicles, I believe in you! Don’t get discouraged!
-
Place 3 tablespoons of mirin (Japanese sweet sauce), 1 tablespoon of sake (Japanese cooking wine), and 3 tablespoons of soy sauce into a bowl and stir. Make sure to stir it up good or your Unagi Don might not turn out quite right!
-
Add 1 teaspoon of shredded ginger to the mix and stir.
-
Add the eel slices to the mixture and stir in.
-
Set the eel aside for about 15-20 minutes to marinate in the sauce.
-
In a separate pot, cook the sushi rice according to the instructions on the package. Rice can be tricky to master, but don’t let it intimidate you!
-
When the rice is finished cooking, turn off the heat and spread it out into a shallow dish.
-
Heat a pan on medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
-
When the oil is hot, add the marinated eel slices to the pan.
-
Cook the eel slices for about 8-10 minutes, flipping them occasionally.
-
Once the eel slices have cooked through and have darkened in color, turn off the heat.
Recommended Sides
