Ingredients
- 1 Whole Fish (e.g. Mackerel 110g each, scaled and cleaned)
- 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon White sesame
- 1 teaspoon Black sesame
- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (Avoid with toddlers)
Directions
- Start with prepping the fish. You can ask your local fishmonger to give you the scaled and cleaned fish, or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can do this yourself. For toddlers, make sure you remove any bones to avoid choking hazards.
- Cover the fish in the vegetable oil.
- Place the fish on an aluminum foil and sprinkle with the sesame.
- Fold the aluminum foil in half, making sure to cover the fish completely with the sesame in the middle.
- Place it in the oven and cook for 200°C (392°F) for 10 minutes.
- Knock, knock… Who’s there? Shioyaki! Wait for the oven to beep or for 10 minutes.
- What did one fish say to the other? Don’t worry, I’m here to shioyaki!
- Carefully remove the foil from the oven (it will be hot!), and serve hot.
