Butter Paneer

General Information
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 2 onions (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
- 2 cm piece of fresh ginger (minced)
- 3 cm piece of fresh turmeric root
- 1 teaspoon of ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
- ½ teaspoon of ground cardamom
- 250 grams of paneer (diced into 1 cm cubes)
- 250 ml of boiling water
- 300 grams of fresh tomatoes (chopped)
- 20 grams of butter
- 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped coriander leaves
Directions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over a medium heat
- Add the onions, garlic and ginger and cook for about 5 minutes until softened
- Add the turmeric root, ground coriander, cumin and cardamom and continue cooking for a further 2 minutes
- Add the paneer cubes and cook until lightly golden (don’t worry if it’s not cooked through at this stage)
- Add the boiling water and bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes
- Add the fresh tomatoes and stir well, then continue to simmer for another 10 minutes
- Add the butter and stir until it’s melted, then sprinkle in the freshly chopped coriander leaves
- Serve with your choice of side dish, such as steamed rice, naan bread or chapati
