Ingredients
- 700g firm tofu, diced into 1 cm cubes
- 80g carrot, diced into small cubes
- 2 stalks celery, thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, diced
- 80 ml light soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons sake
- 2 tablespoons mirin
- 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
Directions

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.

Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan on medium-high heat and add the onion. Cook for a few minutes until it starts to soften.

Add the carrot, celery and garlic, and cook for a further 5 minutes until they are lightly golden.

Add the tofu cubes to the pan and cook for a further 5 minutes, until they start to lightly brown.

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, sake and mirin.

Pour the mixture over the tofu and veg in the pan, stirring to coat everything.

Transfer the contents of the frying pan into a greased baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the tofu and veg are lightly browned.

Serve the Tofu Chikuzen-Ni hot with steamed rice and a joke to get the kids in the kitchen laughin’ - Why did the mushroom go to the party? Because he was a fungi!
