Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon chili powder (omit for toddlers)
- 1 large tomato, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- ¼ cup plain yogurt
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ¼ cup water
- 2 tablespoons freshly chopped cilantro
Directions
- In a medium saucepan, heat the oil over medium-high heat.
- Once the oil is hot, add the garlic and ginger and stir for about 1-2 minutes.
- Add the chili powder (omit for toddlers) and stir for an additional 30 seconds.
- Add the chopped tomato and cumin seeds and stir until the tomato is softened, about 3 minutes.
- Add the coriander powder and stir for an additional 2 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the yogurt, turmeric powder, and ¼ cup of water.
- Pour the yogurt mixture into the pan and stir until the kadhi thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the freshly chopped cilantro.
- Serve the tamatar kadhi with your favorite sides and enjoy!
