Ingredients
- 500g potato
- ¼ cup low-fat milk
- 2 teaspoons butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, diced
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 300g mixed vegetables (carrots, corn, peas, etc)
- 500g diced beef
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
- ¾ cup beef stock
Directions
- (To the boys) Pre-heat the oven to 180°C.
- (To the boys) Peel and dice the potato, and then place it into a saucepan.
- (To the boys) Add a pinch of pepper for the potatoes and enough cold water to just cover the potatoes, then bring it to a boil.
- (Cartoon style for the boys) When it’s boiling, you know it’s time to turn the heat down and simmer for about 15 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
- (To the boys) Turn off the heat and mash the potatoes, stirring in the butter and milk until everything is combined and the mash is nice and fluffy!

- (To the boys) Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
- (To the boys) Add the onion, garlic and vegetables. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- (To the boys) Add the beef and cook for another 5 minutes.
- (To the boys) Add the tomato paste and herbs and stir to combine.
- (To the boys) Pour in the beef stock and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- (To the boys) Grease an oven-proof dish with the remaining tablespoon of olive oil.
- (To the boys) Pour the beef and vegetable mixture into the dish, and then spread the mashed potatoes over the top.
- (To the boys) Sprinkle some cheese over the top and pop it into the oven.
- (To the boys) Bake for 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and the potatoes are golden brown.
