Ingredients
- 1 cup dried moong beans (200g)
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil (5ml)
- 1 tablespoon mung dal (15g)
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds (2.5ml)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (2.5ml)
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions (100g)
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste (2.5ml)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste (2.5ml)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder (2.5ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon chilli powder (1.25ml)
- 1/4 teaspoon dried mango powder (1.25ml)
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander leaves (30ml)
- 4 small buns/pavs (200g)
- 1 onion finely sliced (100g)
- 2 tablespoons oil (30ml)
- 2 cups water (500ml)
- Salt to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar (2.5ml)
Directions
- Soak the moong beans in the water overnight.
- In a pan heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and add the mung dal.
- Toast the mung dal until it starts to turn golden.
- Add the mustard and cumin seeds and stir.
- Add the onion and sauté until it turns translucent.
- Add the ginger and garlic paste and sauté for 1 minute.
- Add the turmeric powder chilli powder and dried mango powder and stir.
- Add the soaked moong beans and 2 cups of water and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add salt to taste and sugar and mix in the coriander leaves and stir.
- Take the pan off the heat and let it cool.
- Slice the buns open from the top.
- In a pan or a griddle heat the 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat and add the onion slices.
- Fry the onion until it’s golden and crispy.
- Assemble the buns with the misal mixture and top with fried onions.
- Serve hot with a smile!
