Ingredients
- 120g macaroni pasta
- 250ml milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon plain flour
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 250g grated cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Preheat oven to 200C.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- In a small saucepan melt butter over medium heat.
- Add the flour to the butter and stir until it becomes a paste.
- Add the milk and whisk for about 2 minutes until it is smooth.
- Add the mustard powder, garlic powder, nutmeg and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Simmer until the sauce thickens and allow to cool slightly.
- Once the sauce has cooled, stir in the grated cheese until it is melted and combined.
- Add the macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package directions.
- Once the macaroni is cooked, drain it and pour it into a large bowl.
- Add the cheese sauce to the macaroni and mix until everything is evenly combined.
- Pour the macaroni and cheese into an oven-safe dish.
- Bake for 20 minutes until the top is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
