- 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida

- 3 Green chillies, chopped (remove seeds before chopping, unless desired spiciness)
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder

- A handful of Coriander Leaves, chopped
Directions

Start by washing the toor dal in a pot for a few minutes under running water. Then, pour enough water to cover the dal and set it aside.

As the seeds start to crackle, add asafoetida, and let it cook for a few seconds.
-
Now, add in the tomatoes and green chillies and cook them till they become soft, stirring occasionally.
-
Add the turmeric powder, desiccated coconut and coriander leaves. Give it a good mix.
-
Now, add the toor dal to the pan and stir everything together.
-
Add about 1 cup of water to the pan and let the dal simmer on low heat.

Let the dal cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
-
Once the dal is cooked, turn off the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
