Ingredients
- 2 cups (400 g) chickpea flour or besan
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons (10 ml) baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) cumin powder
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.2 ml) baking soda
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) soya milk, alternative or plain
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) oil for deep-frying
Directions
- In a large bowl, add the chickpea flour and baking powder, cumin powder, and baking soda
- Add the oil and mix with your hands until it forms a crumbly texture
- Now add the soya milk in increments, stirring after each addition, until the dough comes together
- Now knead the dough for 5 minutes
- Divide the dough into equal sized balls
- Take a ball and roll it out on a lightly floured surface to make a thin disc, about 5-6 inches (13-15 cm) in diameter
- Heat the oil in a deep pan on medium-high heat. Check if the oil is hot enough by adding a small bit of the dough - if it comes up immediately, the oil is ready
- Place the disc gently in the hot oil and fry until golden brown on one side. Flip and fry until golden brown on the other side.
- Once ready, take the Bhaturas out and place them on kitchen paper towels to absorb the excess oil
- Serve warm and enjoy!
