Ingredients
- 4 beef round steaks (150g each)
- 4 slices of lean bacon
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 4 small dill pickles, cut into strips
- 2 tbsp mustard
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp black pepper
Directions
- Prep the Ingredients
- Lay out the beef round steaks on a clean surface.
- Spread a thin layer of mustard on each steak.
- Sprinkle chopped onions on top of the mustard.
- Place a strip of pickle on one end of each steak.
- Roll up each steak and secure with a toothpick.
- Cook the Rouladen
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Brown the rolled-up steaks on all sides.
- Add bacon slices to the pot.
- Pour in the beef broth and sprinkle black pepper over the steaks.
- Cover the pot and let it simmer on low heat for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Thicken the Sauce
- In a small bowl, mix flour with some water to make a smooth paste.
- Stir the flour mixture into the pot and let it simmer for another 15 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
