Ingredients
- 1 cup of dried Masoor Dal
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- 1 teaspoon of coriander
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 to 3 fresh tomatoes, seeded, skinned and chopped
- 2 cups of water
Directions
- Start by washing the Masoor Dal in a colander, ensuring that any dirt is removed.
- Heat the oil in a large pot and add the cumin and coriander.
- Once the spices are fragrant, add in the garlic and onion and sauté for 3 minutes until softened.
- Add in the chopped tomatoes and sauté for a few minutes until soft.
- Add the Masoor Dal to the pot and stir everything together.
- Pour in the 2 cups of water and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Simmer for about 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the lentils are cooked through and have absorbed the water, add salt and pepper to taste.
