Ingredients
- 200g pork fat
- 1 small onion
- 1 apple
- 1/2 tsp caraway seeds
- 1/2 tsp marjoram
- 1/2 tsp pepper
Directions
- Ask your 7-year-old to help you cut the pork fat into small pieces. Make sure they are small enough for your toddler to eat safely.
- Heat a pan on low heat and add the pork fat pieces. Let them cook slowly until they release their fat and become crispy. This will take about 10 minutes.
- While the pork fat is cooking, peel and chop the onion and apple. Your toddler can help with this by using a plastic knife under your supervision.
- Once the pork fat is crispy, remove it from the pan and set it aside. In the same pan, add the chopped onion and apple. Let them cook until they are soft.
- Add the caraway seeds, marjoram, and pepper to the pan. Stir everything together and let it cook for another 2 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Then, ask your 3-year-old to help you blend everything together until it forms a smooth paste.
- Finally, mix in the crispy pork fat pieces and stir everything together. Your Griebenschmalz is now ready to be enjoyed!
