Ingredients
- 2 cups of Japanese White Rice
- 2 tablespoons of Teriyaki Sauce
- 2 tablespoons of Nori Seaweed
- 2 tablespoons of Sesame Seeds
Directions
- Begin by filling a large pot or pan with 3 cups of water. Heat the water over high heat and bring it to a boil.
- Once boiling, add the Japanese White Rice to the pot and stir the mixture gently with a cooking spoon. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes until the rice is cooked through.
- While the rice is cooking, line a tray with parchment paper and then sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds onto a plate.
- Once the rice is cooked, turn off the heat and transfer it to a large mixing bowl.
- Allow the rice to cool down to room temperature. Once the rice has cooled, use a rubber spatula to lightly fluff the rice and mix in the 2 tablespoons of teriyaki sauce.
- Take a handful of the cooked rice and shape it into an oval with your hands. Make sure it is solid enough to hold its form. (Pro Tip: don’t stress too much about making it perfectly round - smiles and animal shapes are accepted here too! )
- Roll the shaped rice in sesame seeds and then wrap it with a sheet of Nori seaweed.
- Place the seaweed-wrapped Onigiris onto the prepared tray and set aside.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Once heated, add the Onigiris to the pan in a single layer.
- Cook each side of the Onigiri for about 4 minutes until the seaweed is lightly toasted and the rice is lightly browned.
- Once cooked, remove the Onigiris from the pan and serve warm. Enjoy!
