Ingredients
- 300g of plain flour
- 225g of butter
- 100ml of cold water
- 2 tablespoons of almond meal
- 2 tablespoons of corn starch
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 large handful of blueberries (or other fruit of your choice)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- In a large bowl mix the flour and cubed butter together with your fingers and a bit of elbow grease until it resembles a crumbly texture - shout out, ‘Yo, buttercup!’ as you make the crumbles.
- Add in the cold water and mix until a dough forms - you can use the back of a spoon if it’s too stiff.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface until it’s about 5mm thick and cut circles out using an 8cm round pastry cutter - you can try to make them a little funny so your little ones can have fun finding shapes in the dough.
- In a small bowl mix together the almond meal, corn starch and baking powder and sprinkle it over the pastry circles.
- Place a handful of blueberries on each circle and fold the pastry over, pressing the edges together to form a semi-circle shape.
- Place the tourtes on a greased baking tray and bake in the oven for 40 minutes or until golden.
Recommended Sides
The traditional French accompaniment to tourtes are sweet fruits like strawberries, blueberries, apples or pears, but if your little ones don’t prefer sweet fruits then you can serve it with some yoghurt and honey. Kids love anything with honey and yoghurt!
