Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (omit for toddlers)
  • 1 large tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • ¼ cup plain yogurt
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons freshly chopped cilantro

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add the garlic and ginger and stir for about 1–2 minutes.
  3. Add the chili powder (omit for toddlers) and stir for an additional 30 seconds.
  4. Add the chopped tomato and cumin seeds and stir until the tomato is softened, about 3 minutes.
  5. Add the coriander powder and stir for an additional 2 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the yogurt, turmeric powder, and ¼ cup of water.
  7. Pour the yogurt mixture into the pan and stir until the kadhi thickens, about 5 minutes.
  8. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the freshly chopped cilantro.
  9. Serve the tamatar kadhi with your favorite sides and enjoy!
