Ingredients

  • 4 stale white bread rolls, 4.5cm in diameter
  • 400ml of whole milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 160ml vegetable oil
  • 4 medium onions, finely diced
  • 1 fresh bag of mushrooms, finely diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • black pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.

  2. Start off by preparing your bread rolls. Cut each roll into four 2.5cm cubes and spread them onto a baking tray. Bake them in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, flipping them over halfway through the cooking time so that they become crunchy and golden brown. Once they’re done, set them aside to cool.

  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vegetable oil until they are combined.

  4. Add in the diced onion, mushrooms, minced garlic, and all of the seasonings. Mix everything together well.

  5. Add the cooled bread cubes into the bowl and mix everything together again until everything is evenly coated.

  6. Grease a baking tray and spread the semmelknödel mix into it. Bake the mixture in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, flipping it over halfway through the cooking time until it becomes a golden-brown colour.

  7. Serve the Semmelknödel mit Pilzen and enjoy!
