Ingredients

  • 500g of ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of parsley
  • 100g of bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 400g tin of peeled tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200 degree Celsius.
  2. Finely chop the onion, mince the garlic and add to a large bowl.
  3. Crack the eggs into the bowl and add the ground beef, oregano, parsley, breadcrumbs and mix together thoroughly.
  4. With clean hands roll the mixture into golf ball size balls.
  5. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the meatballs to the pot and fry for 3-4 minutes until nicely browned.
  6. Remove the meatballs from the pot and keep aside.
  7. In the same pot add the tomatoes, tomato paste and nutmeg. Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
  8. Add the meatballs back to the pot, stirring occasionally and cook for another 30 minutes.
  9. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Serve it with mashed potatoes and a sprinkle of fresh parsley.
