Manzo alla Pizzaiola

Ingredients

  • 800g lean diced beef
  • 500g canned peeled tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion (chopped)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground chili flakes

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 °F (190 °C).
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the onion and cook for about 3 minutes until softened.
  4. Add the garlic and beef and stir to combine.
  5. Cook for about 8-10 minutes until the beef is browned.
  6. Drain the canned tomatoes, reserving the liquid.
  7. Add the tomatoes, oregano, bay leaves, chili flakes and pepper to the skillet.
  8. Stir to combine and pour in the reserved liquid.
  9. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
  10. Place the skillet in the preheated oven and cook for an additional 15 minutes.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

This dish is perfect served alongside some roasted vegetables and garlic bread for a complete toddler-friendly meal.
