Ingredients

  • 4 canards magrets (425 g)
  • 6 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 220°C.
  2. Using a sharp knife, carefully trim the skin of the magret de canards and set aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine the honey, freshly ground ginger, olive oil, garlic, and lemon juice until evenly blended.
  4. Arrange the canards in an oven-safe dish and coat them completely with the mixture.
  5. Sprinkle with freshly ground black pepper, and place them in the oven for about 25 minutes. Make sure to baste them with the mixture from time to time.
  6. Once the magret de canards are cooked through, remove them from the oven and let the rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Recommended Sides

For a complete meal, serve the magret de canards with a side salad and some mashed potatoes. Since the canards are quite rich, a light vegetable dish such as steamed carrots or roasted broccoli will balance out the meal. For a sweet and savoury note, diced apples or other seasonal fruits make a great accompaniment.

And don’t forget to add a pinch of salt and sugar if needed, but remember, this meal doesn’t require a lot as it already has a lot of flavour!

In the words of one of Susan’s children: “Mmm, magret de canard au miel et gingembre, so yummy!”
