Ingredients

  • 1/2 block (200 g) of Paneer, cut into cubes
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon of red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground turmeric
  • 2 teaspoons of tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup (100 ml) of water or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup (48 g) of frozen peas
  • Salt, to taste

Directions

  1. Start off the recipe by heating the oil in a kadhai (Indian wok) over medium heat. Don’t worry if you don’t have one, a large skillet will work just fine too!
  2. Once the oil is hot, add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  3. Now add the chopped onion and bell pepper and fry for a few minutes until softened.
  4. Now add the minced garlic, ground coriander, garam masala, red chilli powder, and turmeric. Fry for a minute. A whiff of delicious spices should bring a smile to your face!
  5. Add the cubed paneer to the pan and fry for a couple of minutes.
  6. Now add the tomato paste and mix well.
  7. Add the water or vegetable broth and let the mixture come to a boil.
  8. Add the frozen peas and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
  9. Once done, season with salt to taste and take it off the heat.
  • Plain boiled ric for a balanced and wholesome meal
  • Naan bread to mop up any remaining sauce left in the kadhai
  • Simple cucumber and carrot raita to add coolness the the spicy dish
  • Freshly squeeze lime juice for added freshness
