Ingredients

  • ​2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 large onion (diced)
  • ½ kg ground beef
  • ½ kg ground pork
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 regular-sized carrots (finely grated)
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 250g mushrooms (diced into small cubes)
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons of plain flour
  • ¼ l beef stock
  • 500g cabbage, cut into 12 layers
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the ground beef and pork to the pan and cook until browned, about 7 minutes.
  4. Add the garlic, grated carrots, tomato paste, mushrooms, parsley, pepper, and nutmeg. Stir well and cook for another 5 minutes.
  5. Add the flour and stir until well blended.
  6. Pour in the beef stock and stir well. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
  7. After 10 minutes, turn off the heat and let the filling cool down.
  8. Lay a cabbage leaf on a flat surface; place a generous spoonful of the filling in the center of the leaf. Roll the leaf up and place onto the baking tray seam side down.
  9. Repeat the process for the remaining leaves and filling.
  10. Place in preheated oven at 180°C for 30 minutes.
  11. Serve with a dollop of sour cream and sprinkle of parsley. Bon appetit!
