Ingredients
- 2/3 cup (165 ml) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) cornmeal
- 1/2 teaspoon (2 ml) baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon (2 ml) baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) minced parsley
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) minced chives
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) grated Cheddar cheese
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 375 F (190 C).
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking soda, baking powder, and nutmeg. Tip: This is called “mixing the dry ingredients”.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the oil, parsley, chives, garlic, Parmesan, and Cheddar. This is the wet ingredients.
- Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring all the while.
- When everything is well-combined, scoop tablespoon-sized dollops of the mixture onto a greased baking sheet.
- Bake for 8 - 10 minutes, until golden brown.
- Make sure to let them cool for a few minutes before serving, or else little fingers will get burned!
Recommended Sides
Fritons are delicious as is, but you could also serve them with a side salad, steamed vegetables, or a fruit compote of your choice. If your toddler is a fan of ketchup or mayonnaise, those also make tasty dips for Fritons. Bon appetit!
