Ingredients
- 500g ripe chickoo (sapodilla)
- 2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios)
Directions
- Peel and deseed the chickoos: Start by peeling the chickoos and removing the seeds. This can get a little messy, so make sure to have a clean workspace and maybe a towel handy for any spills.
- Mash the chickoos: Once the chickoos are peeled and deseeded, mash them into a smooth paste using a fork or a potato masher.
- Cook the chickoo: Heat ghee in a pan over low heat and add the mashed chickoo paste. Stir continuously for about 10 minutes, until the mixture thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan.
- Add cardamom powder: Once the chickoo mixture is cooked, add cardamom powder and mix well. This will give a lovely aroma to the halwa.
- Garnish with nuts: Finally, add the chopped nuts and mix them into the halwa.
- Serve warm: Transfer the chickoo halwa to serving bowls and enjoy it warm with your little ones!
Recommended Sides
Chickoo halwa is delicious on its own, but you can also serve it with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra special treat!
Jokes
- Why did the chickoo go to the doctor? Because it wasn’t peeling well!
- What do you call a nut who likes to hang out with chickoos? A cashew-nut!
