Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs (200 g, skinlessly and Bonelessly cut into small cubes)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Dashi stock powder
  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying

Directions

  1. Start by preparing the chicken. Cut the chicken thighs into small cubes to make them more fun for the kids.

  2. In a shallow bowl, mix the cornstarch and cold water until combined, then add the soy sauce, ginger, garlic powder, and dashi stock powder. Give the mixture a good stir and let it sit until you’re ready to use it.

  3. Add the cubed chicken into the marinade and coat with the sauce. Let the chicken marinate for about 10 minutes.

  4. Heat up a large pot or pan of vegetable oil on medium-high heat.

  5. Carefully add the chicken cubes to the whet oil, making sure not to splatter the oil.

  6. Fry the chicken cubes for about 5–10 minutes until golden and crisp on the outside.

  7. Use a skimmer spoon to remove the chicken from the pot. Place the chicken on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.

  8. Now it’s time to eat! Serve the chicken karaage hot with rice and a side of veggies, if you want.
