Ingredients

  • 50g margarine or butter
  • 250ml lukewarm water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 500g strong white flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
  • 1 pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons raisins

Directions

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 350°F (176°C).

  2. Have your kids help you measure out and add the butter or margarine, water, yeast, sugar, flaxseed, and nutmeg into a large bowl. Invite them to take turns stirring the mixture!

  3. Once all the ingredients are thoroughly incorporated, have the kids add the raisins to the bowl and stir again.

  4. Add in the flour, a little bit at a time, stirring as you go. You may need to get your hands covered with some flour before you can knead the dough as it becomes thicker. Let the kids check it out as you mix the dough and then knead it for about 10 minutes on a floured surface.

  5. Now it’s time to make the brioche! With your dough cutter, divide the dough into smaller pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Place the balls onto a greased baking sheet, leaving enough room between them to expand when baking.

  6. Cover the baking sheet with a towel and let it rest and rise for 30 minutes. During this time, have your kids draw pictures of what they think the buns should look like when they are done baking!

  7. Once 30 minutes is up, take the towel off and place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. Serve the brioche plain or with a drizzle of honey or jam.

Recommended Sides

Homemade Apple Compote is a great accompaniment to Brioche aux Raisins! Core and slice up one apple and place it in a saucepan with two tablespoons of water. Let the apple simmer on low-medium heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once softened, add in two tablespoons of honey and let the mixture simmer for ten more minutes. Serve the compote warm while the Brioche aux Raisins are still warm!
