Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and boiled
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/2 tsp green chili paste
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup chickpea flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Directions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Peel the potatoes and boil them until they are soft. Let them cool down and then mash them in a bowl. You can use a fork to mash the potatoes.

  2. Add Spices and Herbs: To the mashed potatoes, add turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, ginger paste, green chili paste, and chopped fresh coriander leaves. Mix everything well so that the spices are evenly distributed.

  3. Make the Batter: In a separate bowl, mix chickpea flour and water to make a smooth batter. The batter should not be too thick or too thin.

  4. Shape the Batata Wada: Take a small portion of the potato mixture and shape it into a small ball. Flatten the ball slightly to form a patty.

  5. Fry the Batata Wada: Heat vegetable oil in a pan. Dip each potato patty into the chickpea flour batter and carefully place it in the hot oil. Fry the patties until they are golden brown on both sides.

  6. Serve: Drain the excess oil on a paper towel and serve the Batata Wada hot with ketchup or chutney.
